Secret Squirrel 5 Review

Great review from Piccadilly for the new Secret Squirrels!

‘As the weather turns, and summer buggers back off to the tropics until next year it’s time for our rodent population to gather supplies and prepare to hibernate. But not the Secret Squirrel, oh no, he’s made other plans. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, this anonymous animal is back to serve up another platter that’ll make you go nuts on the floor. The A-side offers a potent winter warmer with the Squirrel’s sublime rework of Willie Colon’s “Set Fire To Me” which marries dancefloor thump with pure emotion. The addition of a heavy duty tribal drum track adds the extra dancefloor clout necessary, while the heartwarming pads of the original are gently teased out of the filtered depths, forming well placed peaks of vocal release. Borderline Balearic, this cut’s gonna do damage right across the spectrum. Flip the disc for a flavoursome hit of cosmic funk with the squirrels’ edit of bona fide Electric Chair classic “The Final Time” by Steve Bender! A functional beat meets a gurgling bassline somewhere just past venus while swooning strings and wah wah guitar make an appearance via the magic of space dust. The moog bassline rolls and rips away, trapped in some sort a zero gravity bubble, while the intergalactic funk chugs on and on. The kind of far out groove you expect Harvey to unleash at about half three when all logic has failed you, but beefed up and reshaped for ultimate dancefloor devastation.’
