I will be playing in Paris this weekend at Badaoum with my disco brothers Pete Herbert & Hot Toddy. I am a DJ and my job is to bring people together and make them dance. Nothing more. But in the wake of this week’s shocking events I can only offer these words by Martin Luther King below as comment, and I sincerely hope that soon normal life will resume. Including the things that to me express it the best like music, dancing and love.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness;
only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate;
only love can do that.
Hate multiplies hate,
violence multiplies violence,
and toughness multiplies toughness
in a descending spiral of destruction….
The chain reaction of evil —
hate begetting hate,
wars producing more wars —
must be broken,
or we shall be plunged
into the dark abyss of annihilation.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Strength To Love, 1963
I also want to post this short and shaky clip from my last trip to France to the wonderful city of Marseille where I did a boat party with Phred from La Dame Noir for Bastille Day the 14th. What an amazing night that was! Merci Phred.
I will never forget it. The harbour was filled with boats and vessels of all sorts and sizes as the fireworks exploded and we danced on the decks. It seemed very ‘French’ to an outsider like me. They know how to have fun together in public I thought to myself. And I remember walking home that night and thinking how diverse France was as I watched all the different types of people celebrating in their own ways on the the rowdy, smoke-filled streets of the city. All the same, yet different. When it works it is great.
Let’s stick together people and keep dancing!
